By now you know all about engraving and your options: go traditional with etched engraving (carving into the ring) or go more modern with laser engraving. Both are going to bring about your desire in engraving. However, if you don’t want to go traditional, with just letters on your engraving, you may not find what you’re looking for by going the traditional engraving route.

Many couples these days are completely unaware that engravings are not confined to letters or text. Many symbols, such as crosses, hearts, signs or whatever else you want can be easily engraved onto your tungsten wedding bands in place of words or text, or even with the words or text. Depending on the surface space available, you can even engrave pictures or images. Engraving symbols, pictures or images is something that can be easily achieved through the more modern method of laser engraving. Traditional engravers usually cannot do images or symbols. Not to say that they cannot. However, you would need to embark on an expedition to find an experienced engraver with not only the skills, but also the equipment to make a legible or viewable image.

Once you’ve found the person to do your engraving, you have your last decision to make: where do I want my engraving? It is by far most common to have the engraving done on the inside of the ring. The inside of the ring is the part that will be touching your finger when you place the ring on your finger. No one would ever know it was there, unless you took the ring off and showed it to them. It is really like your own little secret. This keeps the special message to the bearer of the ring and not out in the open for the world to see.

However, it is not uncommon for some couples to want their message outside fo the ring, for everyone to see. This can be easily accomplished. Just make sure to let your jeweler know exactly where you want it, especially if on the outside. The thing is, the vast majority of people get their engraving done on the inside of the ring. If you tell your jeweler you want your message engraved on your ring, and meant on the outside of the ring, for the world to see, but did not specify, your ring will be engraved on the inside. So, if you want outside, be clear with your jeweler about location. Your jeweler should not charge you anything extra for the location of the engraving.
