Black Tungsten Rings

If you have been researching the black ring you wish to purchase, you have probably realized that more and more black ring styles are being constantly introduced into retail market. In researching your purchase, you have probably come to realize that the two most popular materials used to make black rings are black tungsten and black ceramic. Below, you can learn about the differences between the two and choose which is best for you.

Tungsten is naturally a grayish colored metal and is not found naturally in black and cannot be made in a black color. Black Tungsten is, in actuality, not really “black tungsten”. Tiny particles of titanium zirconium alloy, which is black in color, are shot at an extremely high velocity on a tungsten rings. What essentially happens is that the titanium zirconium embeds itself onto the tungsten ring, giving it a black color. While tungsten itself is extremely scratch resistant, black tungsten rings are not as scratch resistant as the outer surface is actually titanium, which is not as strong and scratch resistant as tungsten. Be cautious of any retailer who claims that their black tungsten rings are scratch resistant. They are not being truthful.

Black ceramic, on the other hand, is an extremely hard, light weight non-metallic material that has recently become a staple in jewelry. Black ceramic is not a coloring like the black tungsten, so if it is scratches, you will not see another color underneath. Black ceramic is also extremely hard, harder than every metal used in jewelry with the exception of tungsten. Its lightweight also makes it ideal for women’s rings.

Both black ceramic and black tungsten are going to look great, and you will undoubtedly love whichever ring you choose. However, in our experience in the jewelry industry, black ceramic is a better option due to its greater scratch resistance and its true black color. There are many options you can go with in your choice in a black ring, but just make sure your choice matches not only your style, but your lifestyle.
